Your Family Can Be Paid to Care for You

If you’re already helping a family member with a White Card — driving them to appointments, making meals, helping them bathe, keeping the house running — you may be able to get paid for that care. Up to 12 hours a day. By the U.S. Department of Labor.

This is the single biggest benefit families miss, because nobody tells them it exists.

How family caregiver pay works

Once your family member is an approved EEOICPA beneficiary, and a doctor confirms they need help with daily activities because of their covered condition, the family members already providing that help can be compensated directly. It doesn’t replace your relationship with them — it recognizes the work you’re already doing.

What counts as covered care

  • Bathing and personal hygiene
  • Meal preparation
  • Light housekeeping
  • Transportation to medical appointments
  • Companionship and supervision tied to medical need

If you’re doing any of this today without pay, it’s worth finding out whether it qualifies.

Up to 12 hours a day, explained

The exact hours depend on what a doctor determines is medically necessary for your family member’s condition — but the program allows for up to 12 hours a day of paid family caregiving, on top of whatever other in-home care they’re approved for.

“We hear this all the time”

“I had no idea I could get paid for taking care of my dad. I’ve been doing it for free for three years.”

We hear a version of this constantly. If your family member is an approved beneficiary and you’re already helping with their daily needs, you may be entitled to compensation for care you’re giving right now.

How to get started

We work with your family member’s doctor and the Department of Labor to get the caregiver benefit approved — there’s no cost to you, and no paperwork you have to figure out alone.
