Questions families ask us

What does it cost to work with Energy Employee Services?

Nothing. Not now, not later. Energy Employee Services is an authorized provider under the EEOICPA program and is paid directly by the U.S. Department of Labor. We will never send a bill to you or your family for any of our services.

Can my family be paid to take care of me?

Yes — and this is the benefit most families have never heard of. If your Department of Labor approved conditions create a medical need for help with everyday tasks, your family members can be compensated for providing that care, for up to 12 hours per day. Bathing, meals, housekeeping, driving you to appointments, companionship. Care many families are already giving for free.

We work with your physician and the DOL to get that benefit approved. Read more about paid family caregivers.

Do I have to be homebound to get in-home care?

No. This surprises almost everyone. Unlike Medicare, the EEOICPA program does not require homebound status. If your approved conditions create a medical need for help at home, you may qualify for in-home care even if you still drive, still go to church, and still get out of the house.

How many hours of care can I receive?

Up to 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, for your covered conditions — for as long as the medical need continues. The level of care is set by your treating physician based on medical necessity, not by a benefit cap.

Who pays for the care?

The U.S. Department of Labor, through the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program. The program covers 100% of the cost of care for approved conditions — no deductibles, no copays, no coinsurance. It is entirely separate from Medicare and Medicaid, and it does not replace them.

What if my claim was already denied?

A denial is not the end of the road. Many claims are denied at first and later approved on appeal. We can connect you with experienced Authorized Representatives who handle appeals, and who work on contingency — they are only paid if your claim succeeds. See how appeals work.

What does it cost to work with an Authorized Representative?

Authorized Representatives work on contingency, so nothing comes out of your pocket up front. Under EEOICPA regulations the fee is 2% of the compensation received if a claim is approved on first submission, and 10% if a claim was denied and then overturned on appeal. If an AR assists with an impairment rating, the fee is 2% of any additional compensation from that process.

What kinds of care are covered?

Skilled nursing, home health aide services, light housekeeping, meal preparation, bathing assistance, companion care, and transportation to and from medical appointments. Also physical, occupational, speech, and respiratory therapy; wound care; medication management; blood draws; durable medical equipment; medically necessary home modifications; and prescriptions for covered conditions.

Can I get covered care in an assisted living facility?

Yes. The program can cover your care inside an assisted living facility, which means you are effectively only paying the facility’s room-and-board portion. For many families this cuts the real cost of assisted living dramatically. Most people — and many facilities — do not know this benefit exists.

I do not want to go into a nursing home. Can you help me stay in my house?

That is our number one goal for every family we work with. Between in-home care hours, paid family caregivers, home modifications, and equipment, most beneficiaries can stay in their own home. Staying home is not just possible — for many families, it is already approved and waiting.

Not sure if you qualify? Find out — it costs nothing.

Call or text and speak with a benefits consultant. If it makes sense, we will come to your home and sit down with you and your family. There is no paperwork on your end, and no bill — ever.
