In-Home Care, Covered 100% — You Don't Have to Be Homebound
Most people assume they need to be completely unable to leave the house to get in-home care benefits. Under EEOICPA, that’s not true — and it’s one of the most common things people are surprised to learn.
The homebound myth
If your DOL-approved condition creates a medical need for help with daily activities, you can qualify for in-home care whether or not you’re able to get out of the house. Plenty of approved beneficiaries still drive, shop, and visit family — and still qualify for paid in-home help.
Hours available
For covered conditions, in-home care can be approved for up to 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The exact amount is based on medical necessity, determined with your doctor.
What’s covered
- Skilled nursing care
- Physical, occupational, speech, and respiratory therapy
- Wound care and medication management
- Bathing, meal preparation, and light housekeeping
- Transportation to medical appointments
- Durable medical equipment and home modifications
Assisted living coverage
If assisted living is a better fit, the program can cover the medical care portion of your stay — meaning you’re only responsible for the “rent” side of the cost. This is a benefit most people, and even most facilities, don’t know exists.
Family caregiver pay
A lot of this care — bathing, meals, transportation — can be provided by your own family, and they can be paid for it. See how family caregiver pay works →
